Keep your pencils ready!
To celebrate “la petite Reine”, The Bicycle, you are invited by the association of « Les amis des musées » to contribute to an exhibition in Saint-Lô.

The start of the Tour de France from Saint-Lo offers the association an opportunity to join the exhibition project organized by the Bocage Normand Museum.
« Les amis des musées » would like to create a mural on the theme of the Mail Art exhibiting original envelopes from all over the world.
Below are the requirements for participating in this project. This information can be relayed to schools, leisure centres, etc.…particularly inviting French classes within the educational institutions.

Open call for Mail Art organized for the occasion of the Tour de France 2016, on the following themes:
  • The Tour de France
  • The bike
  • The terms acquainted to biking, such as :
. pédaler dans la choucroute/dans la semoule : to get nowhere fast, to flounder around
. la tête dans le guidon : working hard , be extremely focused
. avoir un petit vélo dans la tête : to have a screw loose
. avoir un coup de pompe : to be knackered
. être à plat : to be exhausted
. en connaître un rayon : to know a fair bit about something
. changer de braquet : aspire to a higher level


The illustration on the envelope can be:
A poetry, a drawing, a painting, a photo, a collage, an embroidery and, why not, a 3D object providing it has the adequate address and postage.

Please send Artwork, address and postage all on the same side, to:

(Any medium or technique, no jury, and no return. No sale and no commercial use)
All works will be exhibited both on the blog and at the Bocage Normand Museum of Saint-Lo from June to September 2016.

Some works might be reproduced for posters,postcards or exhibition panels.
Should you not agree with the above conditions, please submit a written and signed statement to this effect.
For technical reasons the works with permission for the further use of image must be received by the Museum before 15th April 2016. The deadline otherwise is mid-July 2016
